2004-03: Bylaw/Letters Patent Amendment Name Change 2

Whereas, Resolution 2003-17: Name Change Feasibility Study, mandated a discussion of our organization's name and research into possible alternatives; and

Whereas, the name, National Federation of the Blind: Advocates for Equality (NFB:AE), is still often confused with the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) in the United States; and

Whereas, the members of the NFB:AE wish our organization to have a name which clearly reflects an autonomous Canadian organization;

Therefore, be it resolved that all appropriate steps be taken to change our organization's name from National Federation of the Blind: Advocates for Equality (NFB:AE) to Association of Blind Canadians/Association des Personnes Aveugles du Canada; and

Be it further resolved that all sections currently contained in the existing Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws as currently contained or as amended at this year's Annual General Meeting shall be used for the organization, Association of Blind Canadians/Association des Personnes Aveugles du Canada; and

Be it further resolved that the Board take all necessary steps to retain the exclusive use of the name National Federation of the Blind: Advocates for Equality (NFB:AE) for the foreseeable future; and

Be it further resolved that the Board consider using Association of Blind Canadians/Association des Personnes Aveugles du Canada (formerly known as National Federation of the Blind: Advocates for Equality) during an interim period until the new name becomes known in the community.
