2004-10: Funding for and education about Talking Glucometres

Whereas, it is an established fact that loss of vision is a possible complication of diabetes; and

Whereas, the CNIB, the Canadian Diabetes Association, and the Assistive Devices Program in Ontario all have very limited information on talking glucometres; and

Whereas, funding for talking glucometres is only available for individuals who are already insulin dependent;

Be it resolved that the NFB:AE encourage any and all organizations of and for individuals who are blind, deaf-blind, or partially sighted to update themselves regarding technology that is currently available; and

That the NFB:AE take the lead in advocacy efforts to make at least partial funding for talking glucometres available to those individuals with diabetes who wish to monitor their blood sugar so that they stand a better chance of not becoming insulin dependent in the future.
