2007-04: Preserving Human Rights
Whereas, human rights commissions were established to protect and advance equality for all Canadians; and
Whereas, backlogs and under funding have led to calls for fundamental changes in their operational structures including a system of "direct access" to a human rights tribunal; and
Whereas, a direct access system is likely to make it more difficult for societies most disadvantaged individuals to seek remedies from discrimination and harassment;
Be it resolved that the AEBC advocate strongly for the provision of adequate resources to enable human rights commissions to carry out their mandate.
