2009-04: Publishers’s Obligations

Whereas, The AEBC believes the availability of information in multiple formats is a right and that this right must be universally recognized;

Therefore, be it resolved that AEBC attempt to collaborate with Canadian publishers and government to ensure that:

1. Publishers make reasonable efforts to produce their content in alternate formats such as large print, audio, and Braille during their own publishing processes.

2. Where it is unreasonable for publishers to produce these alternate format materials themselves, an electronic format copy of the work is provided to producers of alternative formats free of charge.

3. These multiple format versions are sold at a cost that does not exceed the print version; and

4. Multiple format versions are made available at the same time as the print version.
