Welcome to the new Board of Directors!

The 2013 conference and annual general meeting was held in Toronto, April 26th to 28th, 2013.  At the AGM, the following positions were available for election to the board: President; 2nd Vice-President; Secretary; and Director (2 years).

Your new 2013-2014 board is as follows:

  • President: Anthony Tibbs (2 years)
  • 1st Vice-President: Lui Greco (1 year remaining)
  • 2nd Vice-President: Donna Jodhan (2 years)
  • Treasurer: Charles Bailey (1 year remaining)
  • Secretary: Dar Wournell  (2 years)
  • Director Without Portfolio: Stephen Ricci (1 year remaining)
  • Director Without Portfolio: Sharlyn Ayotte (2 years)

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and express our greatest of thanks to Paul Edwards, our keynote and motivational speaker and a lively contributor throughout the conference.  His words of insight, advice, and experience with the consumer movement in the United States were helpful and, I believe, ought to motivate us as members of the AEBC to do our part -- however small that might be -- to further the cause.

I would also like to thank everyone who worked so hard together to make the conference a reality, from Denise “The Boss” Sanders in Kelowna to Stephen Ricci on the ground in Toronto, to the Toronto chapter, to … well, at the risk of leaving someone out, I will not attempt to name you all.  Suffice it to say that, at the end of the day, the conference was a reality and a success thanks to the hands of many, including the many sponsors (including AMI, T-Base Communications,  Richard Papadina of RBC Dominion securities, Frontier Computing, the Jodhan family, Air Canada, and all of the many participants in Friday’s technology and community fair).

You will hear more from me over the next few weeks and months about where we, as your elected board, are going to take the AEBC.  The key phrases that you're likely to hear much more about include:

  • communication
  • capacity building
  • learning opportunities
  • cooperation and collaboration
  • positive relationships
And my favourite:
  • nibble, chew, swallow, burp: our recipe for success

This all being said, it is going to take some time to get everything organized.  As many of you may know, I am on the cusp of my wedding and so between now and the middle of June my involvement will be limited primarily to organization, planning and starting the necessary balls rolling in the right direction.

If you have any questions or inquiries in the meantime, please feel free to direct them to any board member.

I look forward to working with all of you over the next two years, and thank you for giving me, and the rest of the 2013-2014 Board, your confidence and mandate to go out and, with your help, make a difference!

Anthony Tibbs
President, Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians
