CANCELLED - Toronto: Community Connect 2011 - Sep 22, 2011

On behalf of the Toronto chapter of the Alliance for equality of Blind Canadians, I am writing to advise you of the cancellation of Community Connect 2011; our community event that was to take place on September 22, 2011 at the Best Western Primrose Hotel. The decision to abandon the event at this time was a very difficult one for the chapter. Despite all the hard work and endless hours of planning by our event committee, we have decided as a Chapter that because of a scarcity of resources and the existing circumstances at this time, we are not in a position to have the event proceed as scheduled.

I feel however that the message that we wanted to convey through the event is one that we still can promote together in our community:

  • Vision loss,
  • Minimizing the fear,
  • Moving forward.

Any time we can educate others by dispelling some of the concerns about losing sight and by promoting the reality that people with vision loss do lead productive lives through active participation in their communities, it helps all of us move ahead just a little more.

I want to thank you for taking an interest in Community Connect2011. If you have fully registered for the event as an exhibiter, as a workshop presenter, or as a sponsor, we will be returning all fees in full to you.

On behalf of the members of the Toronto Chapter, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and I hope that we will be able to work together again in the future.

Richard Quan, President
AEBC Toronto chapter
