Support the Toronto Chapter: 2013 Achilles Walk - March 17

A team of walkers from the Toronto chapter of the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC) will be taking part in the 14th annual St. Patrick's Day Achilles 5 km walk at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 17th, 2013 in downtown Toronto.

Achilles Canada supports the participation of persons with disabilities in mainstream athletics, promoting their personal achievements, enhancing their self-esteem and reducing the barriers associated to their participation in these athletic endeavours.

The Achilles Walks assist non-profit organizations in raising  the necessary funds needed for their organizations.  The fund raising through Achilles Walk will help the AEBC Toronto chapter in continuing  the work in the areas of advocacy and public awareness on behalf of persons who are blind, deaf-blind and partially sighted.

For more information about the St. Patrick’s Day walk sponsored by Achilles Canada, please visit http://www.achillesstpatricksday5k.ca.

The AEBC Toronto Chapter will be actively participating in this event for the fifth year in a row.  Since 2006, your support has helped us raise over $3,700.00 allowing us the ability to contribute to our National Scholarship program, fund our community events and contribute to our public education efforts.

This year our chapter is attempting to raise money to support:

  1. Our public education initiatives: activities that educate the general population through the use of ad campaigns and public speaking engagements that address important issues affecting persons who are blind, partially-sighted and deaf-blind in our community.  For example, the importance of clean surroundings on our transit systems for dog guide users, removal of obstacles on our city streets, and improving snow removal in the winters for safer travel to name a few.
  1. Our advocacy work: by making sure that we have a voice in the important issues that affect persons who are blind, deaf-blind and partially sighted in our city and generally as members of society.

You can help us by making a contribution to our chapter. Please make a pledge to one of our walkers directly by giving what you can and by providing your contact information.  You can also donate online through PayPal:
