Alberta Education, Edmonton. The Services for Students with Visual Impairments (SSVI) is seeking a talented, experienced and highly motivated braille transcriber/proofreader to join our team.

Reporting to the Braille Services Supervisor, you will perform duties and responsibilities in producing resources in braille format for learning resources and provincial standardized tests in the core curriculum areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies for use by Alberta Students who are visually impaired.

Working in a team environment, you will use software to transcribe into braille format, create tactile graphics and also proofread braille and tactile graphics produced by other braille transcribers. Other duties may include embossing, binding, labeling and processing outgoing student requests.

As the ideal candidate, you exercise initiative, demonstrate the ability to work independently on a variety of braille-related functions and show commitment to our team environment. Attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy and the ability to carry out duties in a timely manner are essential. Your strong interpersonal communication and problem solving skills, as well as an ability to respond to changing priorities are essential in this role.

Salary: $1,733.38 to $2,213.30 bi-weekly ($45,241 to $57,767 annually). Closing Date: Open until suitable candidate is found. Job ID # 1029021.

Qualifications: High school diploma. Completion of braille lessons (From Print to Braille with Unified English Braille or Mastering Literary Braille from Canadian National Institute for the Blind, or other accredited course), plus 2 years of related experience is preferred. Experience with braille software applications; using MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook; and file management.

Testing for knowledge of braille will be part of the interview. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification level and/or salary
