The top advice for writing a blog is:

  1. Stay on topic: Opinions are generally accepted but the content of the items in the blog should all relate to a general theme. Define a topic and stick to it. This will ensure that you create a loyal following of interested readers
  2. Be informative: If you are trying to create the impression that you are knowledgeable about a topic, stay current on news , if you are voicing or endorsing a product,  then check your facts.
  3. Old news is not news: Try to keep blogs up to date.  People want to read up-to-date information, and if your blogs are up-to-date then people will read it the most!
  4. Clarity and simplicity: Keep it clear, keep it simple. Sometimes a little explanation goes a long way.
  5. Key Topic: Use the title to attract interest, make the title interest and relevant to the post, but something that will attract attention !
  6. Spell Checking and proofreading: It only takes a few extra moments
  7. Quality is better than quantity: One Interesting & informative blog, is better than writing 20 blogs.

One thing to add. If you're going to pick a subject, think long and hard what it is going to be. If you're passionate about the subject, the blog will write and update itself. If you have to struggle for motivation, it's not going anywhere. If you do things right, you can find modest ways to monetize the blog. You might even earn enough for a coffee a day, a nice meal out a week, etc. It can lead to great things, but just pick a subject you're passionate about. Good luck and it's easy to do using WordPress! - Rick, owner and operator of
