2015 Conference - Halifax, NS - Workshops and Presentations
On Friday, May 1st, a series of workshops and presentations will be held throughout the day that all are welcome to attend. These will be held in the Citadel and Cunard Rooms, on the second floor of the hotel.

Caring for Residents with Vision Loss
Presenters: Dar Wournell, AEBC National 1st Vice President, AEBC Halifax Chapter President; [Nicole Wournell]((/programs/conf/2015/speakers#nicole), Registered Nurse, AEBC Halifax Chapter Secretary.

This informative and interactive workshop is designed to equip formal caregivers with information and provide practical suggestions to enable them to better understand vision loss in later life, optimize the remaining vision of their residents who are blind or partially sighted and facilitate a positive and caring relationship with those experiencing vision loss or blindness. This workshop will be of interest to caregivers, both in a facility and at home. A reference package will be available to participants. Questions and comments are welcome.
Bullying
Presenter: Paul Edwards, past President of the American Council of the Blind (ACB).
Time: 10:00 am
Duration: 45 minutes
Mr. Edwards will touch on his interaction with students at the Miami Dade College as the Director of Access Services for Disabled Students. Mr. Edwards will discuss what is the meaning of bullying, who is bullies, when does one become a bully, and can blind persons be a bully?

Canadian Transportation Agency
Presenter: Janet Glendenning, a Manager of Accessible Transportation Complaints and Industry Standards, a group of the Canadian Transportation Agency).

Ms. Glendenning will discuss who the Canadian Transportation Agency is, what is their role, responsibilities of service providers and travelers, accessible transportation issues, outcomes of complaints, what types of accessibility complaints the CTA receives, other Agency work related to accessibility, relevant resource tools and how to contact the CTA. Questions are welcome.
Social Media and Accessible Apps
Presenter: Dar Wournell, AEBC National First Vice President, Halifax Chapter President.
Time: 12:00 noon
Duration: 45 minutes
Ms. Wournell will discuss and demonstrate accessible apps using iPhone, iPad and iPod devices, social networking (Twitter, Facebook) and more. Participants are encouraged to bring along their devices as this will be an information sharing session. Questions are welcome.
Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)
Presenter: Nanao Cachi, Director.
Time: 1:00 pm
Duration: 45 minutes
Mr. Cachi will discuss who the CRTC is, why it is important for all Canadians to interact with the CRTC, explain the complaints process currently in place, an emphasis on the CRTC's efforts to reach out to blind, deaf-blind and partially sighted Canadians, and the “Let’s Talk TV” decision. Questions are welcome.
Accessible Media Inc.
Presenter: Peter Burke, Vice-President, Marketing & Communications

Mr. Burke will present an update on AMI that will include AMI’s digital strategy, Robert Pearson’s new role, and information related to the CRTC’s “Let’s Talk Television” hearings.
Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC)
Presenter: Ian Fine, Executive Director
Time: 3:00 pm
Duration: 45 minutes
Mr. Fine will discuss the functions of the CHRC, types of complaints that the CHRC has typically dealt with over the past five years and provide suggestions for outreach. Questions are welcome.
