The 2020 Annual General Meeting of the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians / L’Alliance pour l’Égalité des Personnes Aveugles du Canada will take place virtually via Zoom on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, 2020. The theme of this year's conference is “Closing the Gaps Between Perception and Reality.”

Registration: There will not be a registration fee for this year’s AGM. Registration will open on Saturday, August 1, 2020 so please stay tuned for further information.

At the AGM, we will be electing the following positions on the National Board:
• First Vice-President (two year term);
• Treasurer (two year term); and
• Director (two year term).

Chantal Oakes (President), Louise Johnson (Second Vice-President), and Devon Wilkins (Director) still have one year remaining in their terms.

In addition, Dar Wournell, our National Secretary, has indicated that she has decided to retire from the National Board as National Secretary at the close of this year's AGM. What this means is that we will need to fill the role of National Secretary for a one-year term.

To be elected to the Board, you must be:
• An active or lifetime member in good standing;
• Blind, deafblind, or partially sighted (as defined in section 1 of our bylaws – essentially, "an individual with a visual acuity of 20/60 or less (as measured on the Snellan eye chart) in their better eye with best correction, or whose visual field measures less than twenty degrees")
• Over 18 years of age;
• Not have been declared incapable by a Court in Canada or elsewhere; and
• Not have the status of a bankrupt (i.e. not have an undischarged bankruptcy underway).

Should you wish to run for any of the above positions, we encourage you to send in your candidate’s platform to before September 5, 2020, so that it can be included in the Final Call, thus giving members the opportunity to instruct their proxy-holders. The final version of the Call to the AGM, including the draft agenda, Minutes from the 2019 AGM, 2019 financial report, resolutions, proxy form, etc., will be sent to members on or before September 5, 2020.

Proxies: The bylaws provide that members shall vote by proxy in elections and on any matters of organizational policy. A proxy form will be included in the Final Call to the AGM. Anyone wishing to vote by proxy should consider seeking a Proxy-holder in the meantime. If you are unable to find a Proxyholder, please contact to be put in touch with another member who can carry your proxy.

Please be aware of these important dates:

• If you are planning to attend our 2020 National Annual General Meeting, registration will open on August 1, 2020. Please stay tuned for further details.

• The last day to submit a proposed bylaw amendment is August 12, 2020 (45 days prior to the AGM). Please send all bylaw amendments to the National Secretary at
