Mentoring Program

In February 1999, the membership of the NFB:AE unanimously supported the mentoring program for blind and vision impaired children. We have expanded this program to include adults who have experienced vision loss either recently or at some other time in their life.

The principal goals of the mentoring program are:

  • To facilitate personal adjustment by providing support, exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences

  • To foster self-improvement by assisting in the development of skills and strategies to meet day to day needs and interests. Issues may include basic life skills, access to various resources, self-advocacy, etc.

  • To enhance opportunities for community participation.

If you are a family member of a child who is blind or vision impaired or an adult who is blind or vision impaired and you are interested in being mentored OR If you are a blind or vision impaired adult and you are interested in acting as a mentor Please contact the NFB:AE office at 1 800 561 4774

We ask that you provide your name, address, phone number, email (if applicable), and such information as age, sex, eye condition / level of vision and any other information that might assist us in providing a suitable match.

All matters discussed within the mentoring relationship will be kept confidential except as prescribed by law unless both parties consent to disclose any information obtained in the mentorship relationship to other members of the NFB:AE.

As an organization, we are concerned about the welfare of blind and vision impaired people in Canada. We offer families with children, and adults experiencing vision loss, the opportunity to connect with blind and vision impaired role models.

We look forward to working together on this valuable program.
