Obituary of John Goodfellow

On December 24, 1999, we were saddened to learn that John Arthur Norris Goodfellow passed away suddenly in Nova Scotia. He was 68 years of age. It is clear to everyone who knew him that John was a caring, helpful, kind and humorous person. He was well-liked and appreciated by many. John was involved in many diverse activities during his lifetime. He began to serve others at a very young age when he served his country in the Korean War. Since that time, John has performed a lot of volunteer duties with the Royal Canadian Legion, the Blind and Sighted Couples Club and the NFB:AE. Professionally, John worked for many years for the CNIB and the Toronto Transit Commission and took special interest in assisting passengers with disabilities. He retired from the Commission in 1997.

John performed a number of different roles with NFB:AE since he becoming a member of the organisation. He was the co-chair of the National Fundraising Committee and a dedicated member of the Toronto chapter. He provided invaluable support in assisting other NFB:AE members with transportation, liasing with government ministers, and provided logistical assistance at NFB:AE conventions. John is survived by his common-law spouse of sixteen and a half years, Susan Pinder, five children, six grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. He will be missed by all who knew him.
