1St Ibsa World Power Lifting Championship Is a Huge Success!

1 Dec 2000 -- On November 25 &26, while those in the USA were eating turkey, in the Netherlands they were eating iron! At the 1st World Powerlifting Championships sponsored by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA), held at the Papendal Sports Centrum in Arnhem, The Netherlands, lifters from 11 countries broke over 50 world records, setting standards for the years to come.

The future of powerlifting for those who are blind and visually impaired has never looked brighter. After many years of the International Blind Powerlifting Federation paving the way for this sport by having world championships, powerlifting has become a Technical Committee of IBSA. This puts the sport on the road to being included in the Paralympics.

2nd IBSA World Powerlifting Championships Set!

11 Jul 2001 -- The 2nd Powerlifting World Championships sponsored by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA), will be held in the Czech Republic September 19-22, 2002. The application by M. Jiri Smekal for the event to be held in Budejovice, has not yet been sanctioned by IBSA, but approval is expected to be forthcoming.
