The AGM committee has been working hard to bring you a conference that you will not soon forget. Additionally, the talent show that was so popular in 2014 will return! You can perform live or, if you will not be attending, submit an MP3 file of your performance.

We have scheduled a tour of Halifax on Saturday, May 2nd from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. This tour will be hosted by Walter Callow Wheelchair Bus. The cost of this event is $10.00 per person. However, directly after the tour, members will be dropped off at a local restaurant for two hours and then returned to the Atlantica Hotel Halifax. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail Dar Wournell at dar@blindcanadians.ca before April 20th. Seats are limited so sign up soon to avoid disappointment.

Ground Transportation

Ground transportation has been a concern when traveling in unfamiliar places. There are several ways to ensure you arrive at your destination.

After arriving at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport you can take one of the following modes of ground transportation to arrive at the Atlantica Hotel Halifax:

  • Taxi: The cost for a taxi from the airport to the hotel is approximately $65.00. It is suggested to pre-book a taxi around your approximate time of arrival to ensure one will be waiting for you. Further information will be available on April 1st.

  • Maritime Bus: The Maritime Bus travels between the airport and Maritime Bus/Via Rail Station. The cost for a round-trip ticket for one adult is $32.82. From there, taxi fare from the station is approximately $10.00 to the Atlantica Hotel Halifax. To book your travel, we recommend booking 72 hours in advance. If you are traveling with a guide, please call their toll-free number and notify them. They will then ask for your CNIB identification number as your guide travels without charge. Students and seniors 60 and over travel at a discounted rate with proof of proper identification. Please note that we are unsure if the website is accessible to purchase tickets on-line at this time. To contact Maritime Bus, please contact them at the following:

  • Metro Transit Airport Bus: Metro Transit has bus #320 which travels round-trip between the airport, the Dartmouth Transit Bridge Terminal bus stop, and Halifax. However, Sundays through to Thursdays, the #320 does not go to or from Halifax between the hours of 7 p.m. through to 5:30 a.m. due to bridge construction. Moreover, the bus stop in Halifax does not have a pay phone to use to call a taxi. Therefore, for those who do not have a mobile phone, we suggest the following:

    • Take the Metro Transit Airport Bus #320 to the Dartmouth Transit Bridge Terminal bus stop. Once at the Dartmouth Transit Bridge Terminal bus stop, you have a few options:
    • You can take a taxi from the Dartmouth Transit Bridge Terminal bus stop directly across the bridge to the Atlantica hotel;
    • Between the hours of 7 p.m. through to 5:30 a.m. Sundays to Thursdays, you can take a Metro Transit shuttle bus which will take you directly across the bridge to the Scotia Square Shopping Centre where you can switch to the Metro Transit bus #7 Robie Street or #80 Sackville. These two buses will stop directly across the street and in front of the Atlantica Hotel Halifax on Robie Street;
    • You can take the Metro Transit Shuttle Bus across the bridge to the Scotia Square Shopping Centre and call a taxi from there to get to the Atlantica Hotel Halifax. Pay phones are available inside.

IMPORTANT: By taking the Metro Transit Airport Bus, the cost is $7.00 each way to the Dartmouth Transit Bridge Terminal. However, if you show your CNIB Identification card to the drivers on all modes of Metro transit buses, including regular transit, the Metro Transit shuttle bus and the Dartmouth/Halifax ferries, it is free. This may be a possible way to save on ground transportation from the airport to the hotel and return.

For Metro Transit bus services and schedules, please contact 311 Halifax at 1-902-490-4000 or by visiting their website at http://www.halifax.ca. This website is not fully accessible but they are working on it. We suggest calling in advance to find out any information you may need.

We suggest you request your destination to each Metro Transit bus driver as buses are not equipped to call out bus stops.
