AEBC's Volunteer of the Year Award for 2019 is Alan Conway!
Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Alan has been one of our long-time and Life-Time members of AEBC currently residing in Gatineau, Quebec with his wife, Monique Beaudoin, and guide dog, Ralston.
Alan retired from a thirty-year career, first as a translator and then as an interpreter with the Federal government. Who would have known that even after his retirement, life continues to remain busy for Alan, especially with AEBC?
With over 40 years of volunteer work with various organizations such as the National Coalition of People Who Use Guide and Service Dogs in Canada, Gide Dog Users of Canada (GDUC), the Regroupement des aveugles et amblyopes du Québec, Association des personnes handicapées visuelles de l’Outaouais, AEBC, and others, Alan has brought invaluable experience to AEBC both nationally and locally.
Alan has served on various committees over the past year. He is a member of the AGM committee, helping plan the 2019 AEBC National Conference and Annual General Meeting in Ottawa this April. Other committees Alan is involved with include the AGM Awards sub-committee, the AGM Agenda sub-committee, the Grievance and Complaints committee, to name a few.
In addition to volunteering for the above AEBC committees, Alan was our lead representative to the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) until last Summer, and he remains as our alternate representative to CCD, filling in when necessary, and updating the national board with regular reports.
