AEBC's Volunteer of the Year Award for 2024 is Chantal Oakes!
Over the past year Chantal Oakes has worked tirelessly for AEBC in the capacity of BC Affiliate President. She spent countless hours managing the delivery of the Personal Response to Emergency Preparedness program funded by a $27,000 grant from the BC Government and Disability Alliance BC. As Affiliate President she has also chaired monthly Board meetings which are open to AEBC members, overseen the weekly chats and organized a successful trivia fund raiser for the annual BC scholarship. Currently she is coordinating focus groups which will be providing feedback for the first two Accessible BC Act standards.
Nationally, Chantal sits on the Fundraising, AGM/Symposium and Bylaws and Governance Committees and is always willing to act as chair or secretary when the need arises. Most recently, she organized a display table for the Fighting Blindness Canada Viewpoint Conference in Vancouver, preparing an accessible display including Braille and large print materials.
Chantal’s unwavering dedication to AEBC both provincially and nationally is worthy of our thanks and recognition.
