Empower Bright Futures: Support Our Scholarship Program

As the year draws to a close, we at the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC) reflect on the profound impact your support has made possible. Today, we want to share an inspiring story of hope, perseverance, and opportunity—a story brought to life by you

Each year, thanks to the generosity of our donors, AEBC awards $1,000 and $1,500 scholarships to talented blind, deafblind, and partially sighted students pursuing their academic dreams. These scholarships are funded through the kindness of individuals like you as well as corporate sponsors. However, the number of students we can support depends entirely on the funds we raise.

Last year, we received applications from 25 exceptional candidates. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to award nine scholarships. Each recipient exemplifies resilience, ambition, and the incredible potential that thrives within our community.

Let us introduce you to a few of the remarkable students whose journeys you’ve helped shape:

  • Zachary Abdalla, a visually impaired marketing student at the University of Calgary, is not only excelling in his studies but also leading efforts to improve Alberta’s education system for students with sight loss. As an avid skateboarder and advocate for blind sports, Zach inspires others to embrace active living.

  • Griffin Hiltz, a science major at Dalhousie University, dreams of becoming a doctor. Diagnosed with Nystagmus and Ocular Albinism, Griffin has overcome countless challenges to thrive academically and athletically. As a member of Team Canada’s Goalball team, Griffin is training for the LA 2028 Paralympics, proving that determination knows no bounds.

  • Karis Oscienny, a blind English student at the University of Saskatchewan, is pursuing her dream of becoming an editor. Born with retinoblastoma, Karis is a passionate advocate for social justice and accessible education while nurturing her love for music and creative writing.

  • Aidan Lapp, a Political Science major at MacEwan University, overcame years of cancer treatment and vision loss to become an inspiring leader. Aidan aspires to work in international security, specializing in peacebuilding and combating state-sponsored crime. His leadership role in MacEwan’s Model United Nations Team demonstrates his unwavering commitment to making a difference.

These students are just a few examples of the incredible talent and potential within our community. But there are so many more who could benefit from our help.

This year, we’re asking you to partner with us in building a brighter future. Every dollar you give goes directly toward empowering students like Zach, Griffin, Karis, and Aidan to pursue their dreams.

Your gift today can make a world of difference. Will you help us open more doors for deserving students?
